This is what you need to understand: Motivation that makes you feel good about yourself will not change your life. Knowing you can do whatever you want to do will change your life. You have to move from feeling good about yourself to believing in your abilities. There is a major difference between the two concepts. Who cares if you feel good about yourself? Instead, believe in your abilities. That belief will propel you to amazing heights. You will believe you have the abilities to accomplish amazing things. And you do!

Most speakers and most books and tapes teach the concept backwards. Many of us have said that in order to have, you must do. And in order to do, you must be. In other words, if I feel good about whom I am, then I will be able to do anything.

Heard that before? Well, that might work; in a fairytale world that might work. Our society will not help you feel good about who you are. You are constantly reminded you are just not good enough. You know what? You are never going to feel good enough about yourself to do whatever you want to do. But should that stop you? Hell, no. It is not about feeling. You are never going to feel you have enough go¬ing for you to accomplish anything you want to accomplish. Does it mean that you cannot accomplish what you want to accomplish? Ab¬solutely not.

You can do just about anything you want to do. But you will not do it by feeling good about yourself. In this case, and maybe only in this case, feeling takes a back seat. It takes a back seat to fact. The feeling forced down our throats by the rest of the world and even by ourselves is that we cannot do what we want. The fact is, you can. So just do it. That is the only way to get it done. You will only do it by doing it. You just have to start. You have to do it and do it and do it. You have to do it badly to begin with. You have to keep doing it until you instill in yourself the courage to do a little more.

That is how things get done: by doing something, whether you feel good about yourself or not. And things get done when you take action, whether you have a good attitude about it or a bad attitude. So do something. Anything. Even if you do the wrong thing, you will find out quicker than by not doing anything at all. So do it. Get started. Now.
