Do you think you will be able to work forever? Being an optimist is a must. However, there’s time when you should also become realist. Should you sick or experience illness that prevent you from earning an income in your occupation, you really need to have something to back you up. With disability insurance, you will get anywhere from 45%-60% of your gross income on a tax-free basis.
Some people prefer not having disability insurance because they haven’t got any kids. They think the idea of having disability insurance is not appealing since they had no dependents. In this situation, if anyone of a couple is not able to work, the other could still cover the household.
That idea is not applicable this day, however. If there’s something bad happen to either one of the couple, they would still need an income stream. While the income has diminished, the outgo is still going to increase from time to time. Do you want to see your kids in college one day, to a good university that require coverage?
It is hard to depend on one salary only. If that should happen, you might wish it’s going to be temporary and you’ll give it a maximum of a couple of years. You might already has experience that make you really know what it’s like to live on only one income stream for a household that actually require two income to run.
It doesn’t matter who you are. If you are in the area that require you to physically and mentally apply your knowledge, you might need to get physician disability insurance. Or if you are working in any other are, you can also appy for one.
