Work: a dirty word. You are paid for effort—the effort to serve others well. Service is rewarded. Always. It is a Universal Law. Earl Nightin¬gale said, “Your rewards in life are in direct proportion to your ser¬vice.” A lofty idea that sounds so sweet to say.
However, service comes disguised as work. Effective service to others usually requires a little sweat. You should perform your work with a good attitude. But even work performed with a bad attitude gets rewarded. Attitude does not get you paid; work gets you paid. Work performed with a good atti¬tude will get you paid better and will make the work go faster and will definitely be more fun, but the key ingredient to doing well is still the work, the effort, and the service!
You are paid for:
. . . the effort to help others.
. . . the effort to serve others.
. . . the effort to love others.
. . . the effort to bring happiness to others.
. . . the effort to make others’ lives more secure.
. . . the effort to make others’ lives easier.
The effort you put forth in your life and your business must ad¬dress this list. Sound new-agey, metaphysical, philosophical, and spiritual? It is!
Do not panic; what you are doing already fits the list. Every busi¬ness in some way provides a product or service that fits the list. If it did not, it would cease to exist. The key is to understand the list and to get better at it. Businesses that understand it and practice it, thrive. Those that do not, eventually go belly up.
People who understand that their purpose is service to others live lives of abundance. Those who do not just live their lives.
