Management as a practice is part of ancient history, but management as a discipline is a mid-twentieth century invention. A review of the literature will find many descriptions for the activity we call management. The word management used as an impersonal inclusion of some unidentified body of decision makers has no meaning. Managers are part of management and thus responsible for results through managing. Management also includes a body of knowledge and is a discipline that has theories, although they are not governed by the laws of science.

Let’s continue the motivational myths. If you haven’t read the myth no.1-10, you might need to read the previous post.
6. Be Yourself
Lousy advice! What if you are stupid? What if you are an asshole? What if you are a stupid asshole? If you are an asshole, stop being yourself and try to figure out how to be someone else—even if it is just a non-asshole version of yourself.

I have already addressed the myths of having a positive attitude and feel-ing good about yourself. While those two alone are plenty to keep you from reaching your goals, sadly there are many more we have been fed throughout our lives that are just as detrimental. Here are a few more.

1.You Can Be Whatever You Want To Be
A lie. Not everyone can be whatever he or she wants to be. Somebody has to do the stuff the rest of us do not really want to do. Not everyone can be a model or a professional basketball player or movie star. First, you may be short, fat, and ugly. That knocks out that model thing pretty quickly. And you may have no talent or skills to become a pro¬fessional athlete or an actor—although I will admit there are plenty of movie stars with no talent who seem to do pretty well.

A friend of mine told me a story about a student in Connecticut who is trapped in debt. I don’t think I have to mention her name. What most important is that we can learn something from her experience.
She was always a top student. Her hard work paid off when she was accepted for a prestigious early-entrance program at the University of Southern California. The Resident Honors Program (RHP) selects only exceptional and highly motivated students to begin college a year before graduating high school. The recruits were from the top 4 percent of sophomores nationally. From a pool of 25,000, between 30 and 60 join the program each year.

No one would think of lighting a fire today by rubbing two sticks together Yet much of what passes for education is based on equally outdated concepts Gordon Dryden, The Learning Revolutio
We all go to school, where we learn subject like science and history. We also develop various skills, mostly related to subject but also some life skills. Strangely, however, very few people meet have ever been taught how to learn. We talk about literacy and numeracy—but what about “learnacy”
When I talk to audiences I ask them which they think is th most important part of their body when it comes to learning. No surprisingly, they point to their heads. I then ask them how much time they spent at school or college or business school learning about their minds and there is an embarrassed and, increasingl these days, a worried silence. People are beginning to understand the real importance of the concept of learnacy, first talked about by Guy Claxton a few years ago

With disability insurance, you will get anywhere from 45%-60% of your gross income on a tax-free basis.

You know who the whiners and blamers are around you. If you have any sense of personal protection, you probably try to steer well clear of them or limit your time with them. When you’re stuck in blaming mode, positive people begin to avoid your company and you end up building friendships with those who reinforce your blame approach so that you can double up on your whingeing and whining.
The blame mind-set is not a helpful place to be if you want to get on and succeed in this world. Blame limits your choices and your results. You find fault in others rather than taking responsibility for the results you get. You wait around for others to do things before you act.
