6. Be Yourself

Lousy advice! What if you are stupid? What if you are an asshole? What if you are a stupid asshole? If you are an asshole, stop being yourself and try to figure out how to be someone else—even if it is just a non-asshole version of yourself.

  • Motivational Myth Part 1

I have already addressed the myths of having a positive attitude and feel-ing good about yourself. While those two alone are plenty to keep you from reaching your goals, sadly there are many more we have been fed throughout our lives that are just as detrimental. Here are a few more.

1.You Can Be Whatever You Want To Be

A lie. Not everyone can be whatever he or she wants to be. Somebody has to do the stuff the rest of us do not really want to do. Not everyone can be a model or a professional basketball player or movie star. First, you may be short, fat, and ugly. That knocks out that model thing pretty quickly. And you may have no talent or skills to become a pro¬fessional athlete or an actor—although I will admit there are plenty of movie stars with no talent who seem to do pretty well.

    Focus and Direction

Typically, motivation is a lot like blowing up a balloon. You blow up the balloon and without tying the end, you let it go and it flies all over the room bouncing against everything.

While it is great to have a balloon all blown up to play with, to really enjoy it you have to tie off the end so you can really have some fun with it. You can use it like a ball, or rub it on your head and let the static electricity stick it to the wall. Or you can tie a string to it and anchor it to something and bat it around. Without tying off the end you have the frustration of just blowing it up over and over and over again until it finally blows out the window or pops. While that is fun to do for a few minutes, it be¬comes tiring pretty quickly.

  • You Must Become Uncomfortable

Big difference, huh? My approach will not make you feel good. And I know how important it is for you to feel good. But feeling good never got you to do anything. If you listen to a speaker who makes you feel good, I doubt you will ever do a thing. If you listen to a speaker who makes you feel uncomfortable, then you might do something.

Having a FUN in Managing Cash

Anyone eventually will face their cloudy day while no one would expect it. Especially when in the last minute you need to pay unexpected bills or unforeseen costs, which urge you to provide a certain amount of money right away - when your next payday is still a week away.

Short visits to the local pawn shop or just borrowing money from friends and family member, only make that it may seem as though you have no other options. Well, how about signing up for a discrete payday loan store online?

    Self-Image Is Not The Key

Motivational speakers will tell you the key is self-image. The key is not self-image. Self-image is based on the words “I am.” How I feel about myself based on who I am. Well, face it; you are not who you want to be. Whaaaa! Too bad. Why not just sit in the corner and whine about it? Maybe Oprah or Jerry or Montel will have you on their show so you can get the whole world to feel sorry for you. That way you can whine about it instead of taking responsibility for it. Surely that will help.

How you feel about who you are is just not that important. How you feel about what you “can do” is what is important. The key is self-can-age. I made that word up. My word is based on how you feel about yourself based on what you can do. And you can do just about anything you commit yourself to do based on the best use of your abilities.

  • This is what you need to understand: Motivation that makes you feel good about yourself will not change your life. Knowing you can do whatever you want to do will change your life. You have to move from feeling good about yourself to believing in your abilities. There is a major difference between the two concepts. Who cares if you feel good about yourself? Instead, believe in your abilities. That belief will propel you to amazing heights. You will believe you have the abilities to accomplish amazing things. And you do!

  • You Must Do The Right Things

What are the right things? I do not need to tell you. You know what they are. You know exactly what you need to do to change your life completely for the better. The problem is never that we do not know; it is always that we do not do what we already know. So I am not go¬ing to insult you by making you a cute little list that reads, “Just Do This Stuff” and you will be okay.

Am I totally against motivation and self-help? Not at all. I make my living in that industry. In fact, this is a self-help blog.
